By October the Maine sea ducks are on the move. The early season is a great time to get out for some Scoter shooting. In Maine, guided sea duck hunting for Surf, White-winged and Black Scoter occurs in October and November. With a large population of Eider that call Maine their home year-round, the early sea duck hunting is fast and furious, and a full bag can almost always be expected.

When November rolls around, the migratory flocks of Eiders make their presence known by the thousands. The birds make the coast of Maine their home right through the end of the season in January, offering great shooting from many of the offshore islands in Penobscot, Blue Hill and Frenchman's Bay.

In mid-November the Oldsquaw are showing up in greater numbers, providing hunters who possess a fair amount of wing shooting skill - or just a little Downeast good luck! - the opportunity to take home one of the most beautiful waterfowl trophies Maine has to offer.
